Schenck Balancing Machines for Torque Converters

Balancing torque converters can be challenging because of the assembly’s internal moving parts, and the fact that it is often balanced with fluid in the converter. Schenck’s torque converter balancers use the 180˚ Indexing Method to provide superior measuring accuracy. The 180˚ Indexing Method measures the converter’s unbalance with fluid and the inner running at the same speed as the outer. The inner is rotated 180˚ from the outer, and the unbalance is measured again. From these two measurements the instrumentation is able to calculate the unbalance measurement.

The unbalance of the torque converter assembly is then corrected by spot welding or projection welding a strip of metal directly opposite to the location of unbalance. The system automatically calculates the amount of material needed to compensate for the unbalance and the strip is cut and formed to shape. The welding unit then picks up the strip, transports it to the torque converter, indexes it to the appropriate angle, and welds it onto the assembly.

Schenck’s PC-based CAB 850 with touch screen display provides comprehensive diagnostics with fault history and statistical data. The statistics function enables rotor type data to be computed, printed or transmitted to a host computer for further processing. Parameters such as mean value, histograms, and standard deviations can be calculated separately according to initial and residual unbalance, unbalance measurement plane and selected type.

Other features include:
